Blood Center Emphasizes Need for Blood Donations, ‘We Give Blood’ Campaign Begins Again

-

Versiti Blood Centers are calling on community members across Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin to schedule a blood donation and help ensure a stable, ready supply for patient care. From now until the end of the year, holiday periods can challenge collections, while needs for trauma, cancer treatment and emergency medicine continue without pause.

Find a donor center or community blood drive by visiting bloodcenter.com.

Note that preparedness saves lives. Blood must be on hospital shelves before it’s needed. Every donation supports patients cared for by hospitals across Versiti’s five-state footprint. Local matters.

Make an appointment at bloodcenter.com. Walk-ins are welcome where capacity allows; appointments ensure the fastest experience. Remember to bring a photo ID. Before arriving to donate, eat a healthy meal and hydrate.

We Give Blood returns

What’s more, in late August, when NFL legend and former Purdue quarterback Drew Brees began answering questions regarding his placement on the Hall of Fame ballot, he also promoted the second year of a blood drive campaign called “We Give Blood.” Abbott and the Big Ten conference are rallying students, alumni and fans to save lives, donate blood and win $1 million for their university, Brees explained.

The We Give Blood Drive challenge began Aug. 27, and will run until Fri., Dec. 5, 2025, at blood drives and donor centers throughout Versiti’s five-state footprint (and beyond).

According to online messaging, “Supporters of the participating universities are encouraged to show team spirit by donating blood in your school’s name. In addition to helping local hospital patients, the winning school will receive $1 million to advance student or community health.”

This Big Ten initiative will help save lives. Considering our Mitchell family’s presence at Purdue University since about 1915, let us say “Boiler Up!” noting that the “We Give Blood” Drive is back, and the need is just as great the second time around!

Considering Illinois also is Big Ten country, Northwestern University and the University of Illinois also can be big players to compete for the $1 million prize.
