City of Naperville Report

Naperville’s City Council has directed staff to add a resolution to the Sept. 16, 2025, City Council agenda appointing Supna Jain to fill the recently vacated City Council seat. If the resolution is passed, Jain, currently serving as vice president of the Indian Prairie School District (IPSD) 204 Board of Education, will be immediately sworn in and complete the remaining 18 months of the City Council term, which ends in April 2027.

Supna Jain

Jain was first elected to the IPSD 204 School Board in 2021 and re-elected in April 2025. During her time on the board, she worked to strengthen public education and cultivate community partnerships, focusing on issues such as student mental health, academic rigor and the results of the district’s successful 2024 bond referendum.

Professionally, Jain is the Principal Lecturer in Communication & Media Studies and Faculty Director of the Center for the Advancement of Faculty Excellence at North Central College. A second-generation Indian American, wife and mother to two teenage boys, she holds a Juris Doctor from DePaul University and a M.S. in Communications Studies from Illinois State University. Jain teaches Indian dance at the Naperville Park District and is the Founder and Artistic Director of a nonprofit dance troupe.

“I’ve expressed my belief in the African proverb, ‘It takes a village to raise a child,’” Jain said. “I will miss serving on the school board, but I am thrilled to have this opportunity to put a new twist on that proverb and help build a strong future for this amazing city – our village – so that all residents can thrive. Thank you to the City Council for this opportunity.”

Former Councilwoman Longenbaugh resigned from the City Council effective August 25 after accepting a new private sector professional opportunity that did not allow her to continue to hold an elected position.
