Naperville Park District Report

The Naperville Park District will begin construction on the parking lot at the Ron Ory Community Garden Plots, located at 811 South West Street, on Tues., Sept. 2. The gravel lot along West Street adjacent to the main entrance will be replaced by a permeable paver lot. Gardeners with plots located in the construction buffer zone have been contacted to end their gardening activities by Mon., Sept. 1. This project is being funded, in part, by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and DuPage County.

Permeable paver parking lots improve water quality and drainage as they are designed to gradually filter stormwater into the lot’s underlying subbase. Additionally, the new parking lot will improve ADA accessibility and designate parking stalls for patrons visiting the Community Garden Plots and nearby Knoch Park. Visitors to those locations will need to park at alternate locations during construction.

This is part of a multi-year plan to improve the Community Garden Plots. Other improvements include the installation of LED lighting for the new parking lot along West Street and the installation of additional raised planting beds.
