The big blast of live cannons punctuated the annual Independence Day tribute concert performed by the Naperville Municipal Band on Thurs., July 3, in Central Park. A longstanding musical tradition that began at the request of former Naperville Mayor Chester Rybicki several decades ago, gave concertgoers the chance to celebrate America. Civil War reenactors managed six vintage cannons that sounded off to accompany the “1812 Overture.”
All NMB concerts in Central Park provide opportunities for BYO picnics, snacks and other take-out menus available at downtown eateries. And the summer Thursday night series in Central Park, now under the leadership of Conductor Emily Binder, Associate Conductor Bill Jastrow and NMB Big Band Director Tracy Oliver, continues at 7:30PM thru Aug. 14.
