Band fans of all ages attended the second concert of the season by the Naperville Municipal Band, held in Central Park on Thursday, June 12. For the second consecutive year, the event featured a Kids Concert alongside a kids costume parade, offering joyful entertainment for everyone.

During the annual Kids Concert, NMB Scholarships also were presented to eight graders. Every year, 8th graders from each middle school in Naperville school districts 203 and 204 receive awards. Recipients are recommended by their middles school band directors.

In addition, three Dr. Ronald J. Keller Scholarships were awarded to graduating high school students looking toward a career in music education. Congratulations to all!

In between Disney classics and songs from Wicked, youngsters were invited to march onto the stage and offered a glowstick to use as a director’s baton.

Associate Conductor William Jastrow proudly boasted that he predicted one of the young directors on stage that evening just might be a future leader of the Naperville Municipal Band.

Concerts continue at 7:30PM on Thursdays through August 14 and are free to attend.

Next up on June 19, the NMB Big Band Concert under the leadership of Tracy Oliver will perform “Big Band in the Park.”
