Naperville Noon Lions is a 501C3 nonprofit organization and all net proceeds are donated back to the community.
Lions Support Styrofoam Recycling
Naperville Noon Lions enthusiastically support Styrofoam recycling. Save the date for its next Styrofoam recycling event planned for Sat., Sept. 6, at a location to be announced.
The last Naperville Styrofoam recycling event was held May 10, staffed by 12 Lions and volunteers from the Naperville Sustainability Office, and NEST (Naperville Environment and Sustainability Taskforce).
Organizers report it was a great success with 100 vehicles visiting the three-hour event, many stuffed to the roof with foam containers and packaging. The foam was broken apart and placed in large plastic bags and loaded into a semi-truck donated by Dart Corporation of North Aurora. The material will be densified by Dart to facilitate shipment to a recycling center. The event collected 23 large bags of material totaling nearly 1,000 cubic feet. Dart will provide a weight total later.
Thanks to the hard-working Lion volunteers: Glenn Behnke, Dave Cleveland, Jim Ebers, Tom Garvey, Steve Hertzberg, Donna Kearney, Darryl Kirkland, Ken Strugalla, Linda Strugalla, Paul Rewerts, Jackie Rewerts and Jim Woodring. Rob Bremner stopped by with his cargo trailer to haul the collected plastic bags for recycling by Trex into plastic lumber and furniture.
Learn More About the Lions
Assisting with the City’s Styrofoam recycling events is just one of the ways the Naperville Noon Lions volunteers give back to the community. Individuals who would like to find a way to give to the community are welcome to visit a Lions Club meeting, to see how club projects put time and talent to work.
The Lions gather the first four Tuesdays of each month at noon for a luncheon meeting at the Pomegranate Restaurant, 55 S Commons Dr, Aurora, IL.
“We gladly welcome visitors to all our meetings” noted Lion Tom Garvey.
