Arts DuPage (AD), a countywide arts council under the umbrella of DuPage Foundation, has partnered with North Central College (NCC) to present Artistic Alchemy, a dynamic exhibition that explores the transformative power of art and creative expression. Opening at Schoenherr Gallery at Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave., on June 5, it features the juried work of 36 artists from 17 DuPage County municipalities who answered the call for artists by submitting images of their theme-appropriate pieces for consideration.
Five years in the making, this show represents the second collaboration between the two entities. Initially set for June 2020, the exhibit was delayed by the pandemic, policy changes, and timing issues. Still, AD remained determined to bring it to fruition.
“As part of our mission to support, promote, advocate for, and distribute grants to the arts in the region, we were driven to provide an opportunity for members of our creative community to showcase their work in a contemporary, well-curated space in a high-traffic area,” AD organizers said. “Through this experience, the participants will gain exposure to a broader audience that can lead to professional credibility and advancement.”
Naperville resident and featured artist Marilyn Dale agrees. “NCC has a wonderful reputation that far exceeds the boundaries of DuPage County. It’s a privilege for local artists to be in its gallery.”
Dale continues, “I do show my art online, but I find it’s better for people to experience the real thing in person. Details, colors, and sizes all make an impact and can be overlooked when viewed through a computer screen.”
Gallery attendees will be treated to a colorful array of work with many pieces available for purchase. Various medium categories, including acrylic, oil, collage, fiber, photography, and stoneware, will be represented in styles that span from whimsical to sublime.
The public is invited to the artists’ reception from 2PM to 4PM on Sat., June 7.
“People seeing the show will gain an appreciation for how much talent and creativity exists among artists in DuPage County,” Dale added. “Meeting the artists is an added bonus.”
