When visitors enter Naper Settlement at the Birck Family Innovation Gateway, they are transported through time with the short film, “Looking Back is Looking Forward.” Narrated by Emmy-Award winner Bill Kurtis, visitors are surrounded by towering imagery projected on the 36′ x 11′ entry wall. Stories of Naperville’s transformation, tragedy, triumph, and resilience fill the space with astounding historical photography, animations, and soundbites that inspire visitors to make their mark on the community’s history. The film educates and inspires visitors to play a role in the history of Naperville.
“Looking Back is Looking Forward” was created by Cortina Productions, a national leader in multimedia for museums. A team of Naper Settlement staff also contributed to the film, comprised of Harriet Pistorio, Chief Operating Officer; Jeanne Schultz Angel, Associate Vice President of Humanities; Christine McNulty, Chief Curator; Andrea Field, Curator of History; and Brittany Tepper, Director of Marketing.
“We are incredibly honored that our film has been recognized by both the Telly Awards and AVA Digital Awards,” said Harriet Pistorio, chief operating officer at Naper Settlement. “Our hope for this film was to share the history of Naperville in an immersive way while also inspiring individuals to reflect upon their own story and how they contribute to our community and beyond.”
The “Looking Back is Looking Forward” film is included in Naper Settlement’s general admission. To plan a visit to Naper Settlement, visit NaperSettlement.org.
