They’re all around us. Almost every day an invitation to learn something new arrives in my e-mail or snail mail from the local libraries and park district, from my friends (including my biking neighbor who encourages me to take a writing course at College of DuPage.
I’ll be so happy when the weather is nicer and I can look forward to his stops when I’m out tending to my gardens!) and, of course, from the Naperville Garden Club.
I write often about many of the opportunities to join a club, volunteer or, in a wide range of ways, to help our community. But sometimes, it’s fun to join in to do something that you enjoy. There’s a club for almost every interest, and even within those clubs are often activities that are outside of the mission statement.
For example, it’s obvious that the Naperville Garden Club is focused on stimulating the knowledge and love of gardening, encouraging civic interest, enhancing our environment by donating trees, plants and service to beautify public spaces and encouraging youth who are pursuing degrees that reflect the interests of the Naperville Garden Club with scholarships. But this is a creative group and, now and then, a member leads a workshop to make something to celebrate the current season.
One of our members will teach us how to make bunnies from socks. See the adorable photo.
All materials are provided, including an instruction sheet that you can take home and make bunnies with your family. Two workshops are available. First 10-11AM Wed., March 19, and followed by another workshop at 1-2PM Tues., April 1. Both held at 800 West 5th Ave. Suite 100K. Paid reservations ($15, for two bunnies) are due a week before the workshop. Email napervillegardenclub@hotmail.com to RSVP.
Our NGC March program (Find details about March 26 meeting at www.napervillegardenclub.org) is one of our favorites. Janet Gallagher has been a floral designer for more than 30 years, spending considerable time mastering the latest trends and techniques in the floral industry. It’s an amazing experience to make a design with her.
Come learn with us. Space is limited. RSVP early.
