City of Naperville Report

At 8:24PM on January 22, Naperville Fire Department responded with a full still assignment for an investigation of smoke inside MOD Pizza at 103 S. Washington St. The alarm consisted of two engines, one truck, one medic unit, an incident commander and a safety officer which brought a total of 13 personnel to the scene.

At 8:27PM, fire companies arrived on scene and the presence of smoke was noted inside the building. An investigation revealed fire in and around the enclosure of a pizza oven inside the restaurant itself. The alarm was upgraded to a General Alarm response which brought an additional four fire apparatus and 11 personnel. An offensive attack was initiated with a hose line placed into operation in an effort to extinguish the fire inside the structure.

Building evacuation was completed and crews checked the roof to ensure no fire extension had occurred outside the original area of origin.

The fire was brought under control within fifteen minutes of crews arriving on scene. Companies continued with overhaul of the building and its contents to ensure all areas of fire were completely extinguished. Fire damage was contained to the oven and contents in the immediate area around the oven.

Fire cause was investigated and found to be accidental in nature.

Contacts were made with Naperville’s Transportation, Engineering, and Development department as well as DuPage County health department. No injuries were sustained by civilians or fire personnel during the incident. Crews on scene were assisted by Naperville Police Department.

The scene was turned back over to the business manager upon completion of the investigation. Damage by the fire was estimated to be $11,000.
