North Central College Report
North Central College welcomes the Chicago Sinfonietta “Black Being” at 3PM Sun., Jan. 19, in the Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave., to kick off the new year and second half of the 2024-2025 season.
“Black Being” is a groundbreaking exploration of the Black female experience. Featuring composer-performer duo Flutronix (Nathalie Joachim and Allison Loggins-Hull), this electro-acoustic performance honors Martin Luther King Jr. with a unique blend of lighting, electronics, poetry, and soloists with orchestra. Newly commissioned texts by poet laureate Jaki Shelton Green give voice to the complexities of Black womanhood. This compelling modern duo are known for their fusion of classical music with hip-hop, electronic programming, and soulful vocals. Truly a one-of-a-kind event celebrating influential creators and socially conscious changemakers.
Limited seating is still available. Tickets are $55-65 and available through the North Central College Box Office or northcentralcollege.edu/show.
At 3PM Sun., Feb. 6, North Central welcomes the DuPage Symphony Orchestra to perform “Beyond Beautiful” in the Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Acclaimed violist and well-known string teacher in the western suburbs, Rose Armbrust Griffin, is the featured soloist in the DSO’s February concert, performing the rarely-heard but gloriously tuneful “Viola Concerto” by Cecil Forsyth. The concert is framed by two compelling masterworks: Johannes Brahms’ “Tragic Overture,” imbued with powerful melancholy, and Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 6 in B minor,” commonly known as “Pathétique,” but more aptly designated as the “Passionate.” This exquisitely poignant symphony was Tchaikovsky’s final work in the genre, premiering just nine days before his death.
Tickets are $10 through $43, also available at the North Central College Box Office. For tickets to the DSO performance, call 630-637-SHOW (7469) or visit northcentralcollege.edu/show.
