Photo Gallery / Memories of Jolly Old St. Nicholas

-

With photos that date back to portrayals of Father Christmas and Uncle Scrooge from “Christmas Memories” at Naper Settlement, we’re forever grateful that Santa’s helpers have found their way to Naperville since the 19th Century. Most often visualized as a jolly old elf with a twinkle in his eye and wearing a bright red suit, every Santa’s helper we’ve met has been eager to listen to the wish lists from good boys and girls to pass along to the North Pole. That way, legendary Santa can load up his sleigh to deliver gifts to children in time for Christmas morning.

The True Spirit of Christmas

To believe in making wishes and have the faith they can come true.

To believe that you can find some joy in everything you do.

To believe in giving gladly for no reason, just because.

To believe in love. That’s what it means to believe in Santa Claus.

‘For it is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmastime, when its mighty Founder was a child Himself.’ ― Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

Keeping track of Santa and his many helpers in Naperville is always a challenge. He’s everywhere! He’s everywhere! He’s been riding in parades, passing out candy canes, posing for photos, ringing bells for the Salvation Army and judging folks in ugly Christmas sweater contests while bar-hopping through downtown.

Yet, before we get ahead of ourselves on this Christmas Eve, we’re hopeful families, friends and neighbors plan to gather together to celebrate with joyous songs, an attitude of gratitude and hope for peace. Visit a local church for an evening service of singing, praying and listening to the account of Jesus’ birth as recorded only in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke.

Special thanks to everyone who works on holidays so folks can travel safely to count their blessings.

And in case you didn’t know, kids can also send letters and wish lists to Santa Claus via the USPS Operation Santa program by addressing them to 123 Elf Road, North Pole, 88888.

Thanks to all the giving hearts on behalf of the child in everyone during this wondrous season that celebrates the birth of Jesus.

‘God bless us, every one!’
― Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol
