During this Thanksgiving season, we want to express our gratitude for the extraordinary families who navigate the unique joys and challenges that occur along the autism journey.
It is one filled with resilience, love, and an unwavering commitment to their loved ones. It is also one that deepens the appreciation of small victories in life. Whether it is a first word spoken, a new friend made, or an opportunity to have a family night out – it is a reminder to celebrate every achievement, big or small.
Recently, our Turning Pointe Day School families attended a private event at The DuPage Children’s Museum just for them. The opportunity for these families to access the museum without fear of judgment while knowing that their children could just be themselves was a gift. Parents were able make connections with other parents who truly understand their experiences. Kids were able to stim, vocalize, and run around safely with their peers. Siblings, grandparents and other loved ones were able to experience this night together as a family. This seemingly simple night, which easily could have been taken for granted, was instead full of impactful moments.
So, as we give thanks this season, we want to give a special thanks to the families we serve. You give our mission purpose, strengthen our community, and remind us to celebrate all of life’s moments, both big and small!
