Naperville Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Crash

Naperville Police seek information while investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred Oct. 23, 2024, at the intersection of South Naper Boulevard and Hobson Road. City of Naperville Public Information Office Report

At approximately 8:01PM on Wed., Oct. 23, 2024, Naperville Police Department and Naperville Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the intersection of South Naper Boulevard and Hobson Road for a traffic crash with injuries and one of the vehicles in a nearby pond. 

Preliminary investigation indicated that a 2020 Nissan Kicks driven by Sarah A. Jelgerhuis, a 35-year-old female from Wheaton, turned left from southbound Naper Boulevard toward eastbound Hobson Road. While turning, her vehicle was struck by a 2023 Ford Bronco driven by a 17-year-old female from Naperville, who was traveling northbound on Naper Boulevard. The Nissan came to rest north of the intersection, partially submerged in a pond.

Ms. Jelgerhuis was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Due to the nature of the crash, traffic crash investigators and reconstruction specialists from the Naperville Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded to the scene. 

This traffic incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to contact the Naperville Police Department’s Traffic Unit at (630) 420-8833.
