Each one-of-a-kind silk or dried floral creation has been designed by the Weed Ladies of the Naperville Heritage Society volunteer group. Proceeds benefit the Naperville Heritage Society. Public Safety Open House / 10AM – 2PM / Naperville’s Public Safety Campus  – 1380 Aurora Ave. Naperville, IL 60540 / The Public Safety Open House is an event the entire community will enjoy while gaining valuable safety information for their families, neighborhoods and workplaces. Join the Naperville Police and Fire Departments for this annual family-friendly, fun-filled day featuring safety demonstrations, crime and fire prevention information, food trucks, activities and giveaways! Naperville Artisan Market at CityGate / 10AM / Don’t miss the fall edition of the Naperville Artisan Market at CityGate Centre, 2135 CityGate Lane, on Sat-Sun, Sep 28-29 (10AM-4PM both days). Free admission and plenty of parking both days.

2nd Annual Paws on the Parkway / Noon / Visit Paws on the Parkway, a pet fair and adoption event supporting A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter, a nonprofit no-kill animal rescue in Naperville, will be held noon to 4PM Saturday, Sept. 28, at CityGate Centre, 2135 CityGate Lane. Find more info under PN Events.

Marmion Academy Homecoming Bonfire & Kick-Off Party / 6PM / Marmion Academy will kick-off Homecoming week with the largest homecoming bonfire in the area. Families across the Chicagoland area are invited for a fun night of outdoor activities, including the Homecoming Bonfire, Free Family Fun Zone, Food Trucks, Pep Rally (6:30PM) Live Band (7-9:30PM), Middle School Giveaways, Alumni Giveaways and more! The Marmion Homecoming Bonfire dates back to the 1950s and has become a long-standing tradition. Marmion Academy is located at 1000 Butterfield Road in Aurora.

Happy 125th Anniversary to Veterans of Foreign Wars / Established on September 29, 1899, Veterans of Foreign Wars celebrate and new street signs help tell the story along Jackson Avenue in downtown Naperville! Members of this city’s VFW and Auxiliary are certain to plan opportunities to recognize the 125th anniversary throughout the year, always mindful that a proud group of W.W. I & W.W. II veterans came together on January 9, 1944, to establish the Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873. Those charter members voted to name the local VFW in honor of native Napervillian and W.W. I hero Judd Kendall. Thanks to all for honorable service.

Rumba Sunday Brunch at AltaVida / 10AM to 3PM / Housed in a 10,000 square-foot, multilevel complex at 16 W. Jefferson Ave., AltaVida features three distinctive floors, unveiling the sights, sounds, and tastes of sensational cultural expression with inspired music, food and drink of Barcelona, Havana, Old San Juan, Guadalajara, Buenos Aires, and Rio de Janeiro. AltaVida is open daily.

Oktoberfest at Peanuts Bar & Grill / Noon to 7PM / Come down to Peanuts Bar & Grill in Downtown Naperville on Sun., Sept. 29, for a fun-filled Oktoberfest celebration. Fiber Art Divas Show Reception at Naperville Fine Art Center & Gallery / 2PM / The Fiber Art Divas group presents its annual “Elements of Innovation” art show now through Oct. 12, 2024, at the Naperville Fine Art Center & Gallery, 508 N. Center St. On display are more than 35 original pieces including art quilts, wearable art, felted wool creations, beadwork, embroidery, weaving, AI design, and more. Some items will be for sale. The show reception will be 2 to 4PM on Sun., Sept. 29. Techniques used by some of the artists will be demonstrated in the classroom. Refreshments will be served.
