It’s strange how time drags as you live it but feels so fleeting once it’s passed. A year is an eternity from the perspective of right now, which is why it felt so surprising when I realized that September had crept up on me. This month marks a personal milestone for me – one year of writing for Positively Naperville.
From covering small local stories to sharing my own experiences as a student, every article I’ve written has been an opportunity to grow, explore, and connect with my community. I’ve gotten to interview doctors, do book reviews, talk about my passions, support my school, and so much more.
As I’ve learned more about myself as a writer over the past year, I’ve also learned more about the value of words.
Whenever the latest edition of Positively Naperville comes out I do two things: I take a moment to stare in disbelief at my name in the paper, and then I read the entire thing front to back. Stories are windows to the soul, and you can see the skill and passion of Positively Naperville’s writers on each page.
When a writer is excited about amazing things happening in the neighborhood, I get excited with them. When I read about someone’s love for gardening I feel the urge to go outside. When someone shares their life story I want to meet them and tell them how incredible their experience was.
One of my favorite things about writing is the potential to touch the thoughts and hearts of others, and I can only hope that my writing has done so.
Thank you, Positively Naperville, for giving me the chance to share my voice. And thank you, Naperville, for being a part of this journey with me. Here’s to another year of storytelling.
