Original Post, Sept. 7, 2024 / It’s hard to believe that fall is right around the corner! And the thing we look most forward to is opening our doors in early fall to showcase ourselves and give Naperville residents a glimpse into all that is the Naperville Fire Department and Naperville Police Department. So, save the date, Sept. 28! I am thrilled to announce that we will be hosting our annual Public Safety Open House.

This year’s family friendly event will take place from 10AM to 2PM Sat., Sept. 28, at the Public Safety Campus located at 1380 Aurora Avenue. Parking is available at Safety Town and at the church lot across River Road.

Prepare. Practice. Prevent.

This event is perfect for families and scouts! The purpose of this event is to disseminate important crime and fire prevention information to the residents of Naperville and to encourage citizen action regarding crime and fire prevention strategies. Both departments firmly believe that citizens are the number one defense against fire and crime and want to spread the word that residents need to “Prepare, Practice and Prevent” to keep their families safe.

This must-see event will include a variety of activities including a K-9 demonstration and a flashover fire demonstration. A large display of Fire and Police vehicles and equipment will also be on-site.

If available, the 1924 Ahrens-Fox, Naperville’s second piece of motorized fire apparatus has been fully restored and will also be proudly displayed.

Have you ever wanted to see our Water Rescue Team in action? We’ll have an action-packed demo! Do you like food trucks? We’ll have those, too! Old favorites such as the evidence collection demonstration of fingerprint lifting and visits by Sparky and McGruff will be back again this year as well.

The Public Safety Open House is an event the entire community will enjoy while gaining valuable safety information for their families, neighborhoods, and workplaces. We’ll also have a fire truck jumpy! Come out and help us celebrate 150 years of the Naperville Fire Department.
