Joining the team at Loaves & Fishes Community Services last November was a profound and transformative experience. It was the week before Thanksgiving, and I vividly remember the long line of cars stretching down the street as clients arrived early to shop for groceries in the Naperville Market. As a former board member, I was aware of the increasing client demand, but my new role brought me face-to-face with the people behind the statistics—seniors struggling with high inflation, young children lacking basic nutrition, and parents working multiple jobs while trying to make ends meet.
As I settled into my new role, I was also struck by the unwavering dedication of the many volunteers, team members, donors, and community partners working tirelessly to ensure that Loaves & Fishes can continue to serve as a lifeline of hope for these neighbors in need. Each day, I continue to witness countless acts of kindness—whether it is a volunteer going the extra mile to brighten a child’s day, a team member patiently helping a client navigate available resources, or a community member giving what she can to help put food on a family’s table.
This year, as we celebrate our 40th anniversary, I am filled with hope and gratitude. What began as a small food pantry has evolved into the largest food pantry in Illinois, serving between 9,000 and 10,000 people across DuPage, Kane, Kendall, and Will Counties each week. The challenges we face are significant, but together, we can ensure that everyone in our community has access to the resources and food needed to thrive. I am honored to be part of this incredible journey and look forward to the impact we will continue to make in the lives of those we serve.
