WDSRA: Dive into fun with inclusive swim lessons

-

After a brief hiatus, the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) is thrilled to announce the return of swim lessons. In partnership with the Fry Family YMCA, we are excited to offer swim lessons designed specifically for individuals with special needs.

Making a Splash in a Fun and Encouraging Environment: Swim lessons cater to children aged 5-17, providing a supportive and enjoyable atmosphere where every participant can thrive. Led by Fry’s certified instructors, lessons focus on three key areas: safety, skill development, and confidence building. Whether your child is a beginner or looking to enhance their swimming skills, the program will be tailored to meet their unique needs.

Why Swim Lessons Matter:  Water safety is a crucial life skill. From cooling off in the neighborhood pool with friends to enjoying a vacation at the beach, the ability to swim opens up a world of possibilities. Splashing around the water and playing water games fosters social interactions and creates opportunities for fun and bonding, making it a big part of forming friendships.

Swimming is also an excellent form of exercise, improving muscle strength and cardiovascular health, while offering tremendous relaxation benefits for both the body and mind. Knowing how to swim ensures safety in various water environments and extends into other water sports like kayaking and paddleboarding. For some, swim lessons may even spark a passion for competitive swimming leading to goal-setting and self-discipline. Lessons are the perfect starting point for all these aquatic adventures.

Program Details: With a low staff-to-participant ratio of one staff member for every two participants, each child receives the attention and support they need. Lessons are 30 minutes long and we offer two 6-week sessions: 9/15- 10/20 and 10/27-12/8.

How to Register: Although the official registration may have ended, spots are still available.  Call 630-681-0962 for availability. For complete details, visit page 33 of the fall program brochure at www.wdsra.com/current-brochure.
