Centennial Beach / 11AM / Now open daily for building sandcastles, swimming, volleyball, adult floats (9AM Saturday and Sunday), relaxing under the trees and fond memories. Since 1931, families have found summertime fun at 500 W. Jackson Avenue! Daily Admission / Youth: Resident $8 / Nonresident $14; Adult: Resident $10 / Nonresident $16; After 5PM: Resident $5 / Nonresident $8. (Note! Be aware that hours for Centennial Beach soon will be changing with the advent of schools beginning again.)

Brats at Kreger’s / 10AM to 3PM Fridays and Saturdays at Kreger’s Brat and Sausage Haus – 606 N. Ellsworth Naperville, IL 60563 / Stop by for lunch, conversation and camaraderie. Let Bill know that you know his wurst is the best, especially for weekend grilling this season and plans for upcoming get-togethers.

DuPage County Fair / This weekend thru July 28 / Celebrate agriculture, one of the largest industries in Illinois, and rural roots at the DuPage County Fair. The DuPage Event Center and Fairgrounds are located just north east of Roosevelt and County Farm Road, directly east of the DuPage County Complex, at 2015 Manchester Road, in Wheaton, the county seat. Hours: 11AM to 11PM Friday, 12 Noon to 11PM Saturday and 12 Noon to 8PM Sunday. Admission is charged. Kids five and under are free.

Summer Place Theatre presents Westside Story / 7:30PM / Naperville Central High School, 440 Aurora Ave / General Admission Seating / Doors Open 30 minutes Prior to Show. The musical runs weekends thru Aug. 4. (Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30PM; Sunday Matinee at 2PM) / Tickets at the box office are $25 for adults / $20 for students and seniors. A Night at the Movies presents “Minions: The rise of Gru / 8:30PM / Naperville Park District will host the first “A Night at the Movies,” a series of five free, family-friendly Friday evening movies hosted outdoors. The first movie will be shown at Rotary Hill, located at 443 Aurora Ave. Everyone is welcome to bring their own folding chairs, blankets & snacks.

Adopt a Veterans Grave Initiative on CBS 2 News Chicago / 10PM on CBS 2 News Chicago TV / VFW Post 3873 Commander and American Legion Member Staci Boyer will be featured on CBS News tonight talking about the “Adopt a Veterans Grave” initiative. Boyer is an active member in both posts and the project was born out of an emotional experience during the posts’ annual Memorial Day flag placement at Veteran’s Graves in Naperville.

How do fish measure up at Whalon Lake, located off Royce Road? The Will County Forest Preserve offers access to shoreline fishing on its 80-acre lake. Whalon Lake is stocked with bluegill, black crappie, largemouth bass, channel catfish and walleye.

GO FISH! / Dawn to Dusk Daily / Considering the defining definition “to search, seek or obtain something indirectly,” you never know what you’ll catch naturally by visiting local parks and ponds to experience the great outdoors… Enjoy strolling among wildflowers, Canada geese, Mallard ducks, muskrats, anglers of all ages and much more! Yes! Anglers are known to catch largemouth bass and rock bass along the Riverwalk. Go clicking fishing!

Fishing is peaceful along the DuPage River in the heart of the city. After this photo was taken, a Riverwalk stroller across from Water Street, standing near the Moser Covered Bridge and the imprint “Do not feed wildlife,” noted he’d watched a young angler yesterday, July 25, catch a fish 4-feet long. Fish story or not, go fish!

Enjoy Every Day at Quigley’s Irish Pub / 11AM / Quigley’s Irish Pub is located at 43 E. Dick Tracy, an international symbol of law and order, welcomes folks to visit his bronze likeness located behind the Naperville Township Building, just over the Moser Covered Bridge at Webster Street, leading toward Water Street. Take photos with the 9 ft. sculpture on the Century Walk Tour. Promote partnering to prevent crime.

Concerts in Your Park presents Hoopla – hooplarocks.com / 7PM / The Sunday evening summer music series is for families, friends and neighbors, featured at different locations throughout the the Naperville Park District. This evening bring your lawn chairs and blankets for FREE outdoor musical entertainment from 7-8:30PM at White Eagle Park, 3140 White Eagle Dr.

Downtown Naperville continues to be “abuzz” with its summer sculptures that include ladybugs, caterpillars, snails and, of course, honeybees. Think breakfast, lunch or dinner at a downtown eatery and a tour of outdoor public art.

Note the schedule for the 2024 Naperville Municipal Band Summer Concert Series at 7:30PM Thursdays in Central Park, now through August 15, is available on page 4 of the July publication and also at www.napervilleband.org.  All NMB concerts are free of charge. Plan a family picnic with friends and neighbors. Order take-out from a downtown eatery. Concerts run between 60 and 90 minutes. Park benches await. Or BYO collapsible chair or blanket. Be part of the large audience! Come enjoy the musical tradition that dates back to 1859.
