A 19-year-old man from Chicago was arrested July 24, 2024, on felony armed robbery charges following a Naperville Police investigation into an April 2024 shooting at a Naperville residence.
On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at approximately 1:35PM, Naperville Police Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 2500 block of Leach Drive for the report of a gunshot victim. Responding officers located a 22-year-old male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was transported to a local hospital and has since been released. Two offenders had reportedly fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival.
The preliminary investigation indicated the victim and the offenders knew each other prior to the incident, during which the offenders also allegedly stole cash from the victim.
The first suspect, a juvenile, was arrested the same day, April 16, and charged with Aggravated Robbery with a Firearm, a Class 1 felony.
Naperville Police obtained a warrant for the second suspect, Kanyon J. Hardy, 19, of the 4200 block of West Washington Boulevard in Chicago. Hardy, who allegedly discharged the firearm during the incident, was arrested July 24 by Forest Park Police and is charged with three counts of Armed Robbery, all Class X felonies.
The Naperville Police wish to remind the public and the news media that a charge is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Updated Post #2, 11AM Wed., April 17, 2024 / On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at the approximate time of 1:30PM, officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Leach Dr. for the report of a gunshot victim.
The preliminary investigation indicates that two subjects, known to the victim, came to the victim’s house. Shortly thereafter, a struggle ensued, and the victim was shot in the leg. The two alleged offenders fled the scene on foot.
Naperville officers searched the area for several hours and later located and arrested a juvenile. This juvenile was later transferred to the River Valley Juvenile Detention Center, located in Joliet. The juvenile appeared at a detention hearing this morning (April 17, 2024) where they were charged with one count of Aggravated Robbery and remanded. Their next court date is scheduled for May 1, 2024.
The investigation is ongoing to locate the second alleged offender.

The victim has been identified as a 22-year-old male from Naperville.

On Tues., April 16, 2024, at the approximate time of 1:30PM, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 2500 block of Leach Drive for the report of a gunshot victim.
Police and Fire personnel arrived on scene and located a victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to a local hospital. The wound is believed to be non-life threatening. Preliminary investigation indicates this was not a random act.
The offenders reportedly fled on foot in an unknown direction of travel.
Several schools in the area were placed on lockdown and a shelter in place. Naper Notify Alert was sent to surrounding residents. This incident is an active investigation.
