Turning Pointe Autism Foundation: Empowering moments for Turning Pointe athletes

-

by Mary Butler

Saturday, July 27 promises to be a morning of fun, empowerment and joy for athletes with Autism. Turning Pointe Autism Foundation is teaming up with the I GOT THIS Foundation to bring the transformative Discovery Golf Clinic to Chicago. This event isn’t just about learning the game of golf—it’s about creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Hosted at the beautiful Bob Berry Sunshine Golf Course, supported by the Chicago District Golf Association (CDGA), this clinic offers a serene setting for athletes to embark on a journey into the sport of golf. Overlooking a scenic 3-hole course, the two-hour skills clinic will not only teach the fundamentals of golf but also instill a sense of accomplishment and possibility.

The highlight of the day will be the presence of Amy Bockerstette, the passionate founder of the I GOT THIS Foundation. Amy, a trailblazer in the collegiate golfing community, embodies resilience and inclusivity. As the first person with Down Syndrome to earn an athletic scholarship and compete in a national college championship, Amy shines with the power of determination.

Amy’s infectious enthusiasm and encouragement will guide the Turning Pointe athletes through every swing and putt, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and achievement. A special invitation was shared with athletes from the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association to join in the day. Up to 24 participants will discover their potential on the green, fueled by Amy’s inspiring example.

Beyond golf, this day offers more than skill-building—it’s about making connections, embracing new experiences, and celebrating the uniqueness of every individual. “Our programs give every Athlete and Playing Partner the opportunity to discover their own I GOT THIS! moment,” said I GOT THIS Foundation Executive Director Tracy Hupko.

“We feel blessed that Amy and her team will partner with us in lifting up visibility for our athletes,” said Carrie Provenzale, Executive Director. “The meet-and-greet photo opportunity with Amy promises to capture not just smiles, but the heart of everyone in the room.”

As we embark on this heartwarming journey of discovery through golf, we hope to create a day where passion meets purpose and where every putt and every swing can reinforce acquiring a new skill. Perhaps… even igniting a lifelong passion for the game of golf.
