Fort Payne Chapter, NSDAR Report

Fort Payne Chapter, NSDAR has recently been honored with 27 State Conference Awards, two North Central Division Awards, and two awards from the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution national organization for the chapter’s work in 2023 promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism.

The national organization has 3,000 chapters throughout all 50 states, making recognition at the national level an exceptional achievement. Chapter Regent Jill Brewer and Honorary Chapter Regent Wrenne Jakubiak are attending Continental Congress at the National Headquarters for Daughters of the American Revolution in Washington D.C. where the chapter will receive the two National-level awards at the end of June.

Fort Payne has received national recognition with 1st Place from the National Public Relations and Media Committee in the Electronic Media Category for Fort Payne’s Original Constitution Week Video, “Man on the Street, What Do You Know About Our Constitution?” The Fort Payne Chapter used volunteer resources to create the video.

Professional filmmaker Tom Hartmann, founder and creator of Blink of an Eye Productions, is the husband of Fort Payne Chapter member Julie Hartmann. The interviews were done by Madeleine Miller who is a member of Fort Payne and an active professional journalist.

Hartmann and Miller hit the streets of downtown Naperville and the Naperville Riverwalk along with several members of the Fort Payne Chapter. Questions were asked to a diverse group of citizens about what they knew about the U.S. Constitution.

The knowledge that Naperville residents possessed about the Constitution was impressive as featured in the following video:

Fort Payne also received national recognition with 1st Place from the National Commemorative Events Committee for Best Chapter Publication for the 50th Commemoration of the Vietnam War. Chapter members worked very hard at planning, execution, media involvement, and post-activity reporting to make sure Fort Payne was honoring Vietnam veterans with ongoing activities throughout 2023 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and properly acknowledge all the veterans who may not have received a warm homecoming when returning from the war.

“Fort Payne is an amazing chapter full of talented and passionate women who work together to protect historic preservation, education, and patriotism,” stated Fort Payne Chapter Regent Jill Brewer. “Attending Continental Congress is a very special opportunity to meet with Daughters from around the world and hear the impact that our volunteer service projects are making in our communities.”
