The Y – This summer’s forecast at the Y shows sports of all sorts

-

It’s finally that time of year — the time for ice cream, sunscreen, days of play, and all of the other wonderful things that summer brings!

And this summer, we’re getting our heads in the game and jumping fully into the world of sports! To kick things off, we’re so excited to share that our newly renovated gym is open for community use. We freshened up the place by painting the walls, repairing the floor, installing new basketball units and a divider, and updating wall pads for your comfort and security. Additionally, the floors were refinished with a new stain and restriped for greater functionality.

We had a great time celebrating the reopening of our gym at Healthy Kids Day back in April, where we unveiled the new space with a ribbon cutting and community celebration.

At the Fry Family YMCA, we extend a huge thanks to the donors who made the renovation possible: Robert and Dorothy Broadwell. Thanks to your generosity and dedication to the Y and our mission, we can continue providing a welcoming and safe environment where the people we serve can find joy and growth in sports, community, and play.

Additionally, we want to give warm congratulations (just in time for the warm weather!) to our new Sports Director, Curtis Walker! Curtis has worked for the Y for more than five years, has a degree in Special Education from Northern Illinois University, and loves to play basketball, softball, and golf in his free time. We’re so excited to welcome him to this new role and see how he makes sports at the Fry Family Y even more fun than they already are!

Want to take full advantage of these exciting new changes? Well, for the young athletes in the crowd, you’re in luck! There’s still time to register for our sports day camps and take part in the summer of a lifetime. We offer a variety of sports camps that will help youth take their skills to the next level, including Basketball Camp, Badminton Camp, Sports of All Sorts Camp, and more. Campers will learn sports techniques, teamwork skills, and gameplay while making friends and shaping unforgettable memories.
