KidsMatter 2 Us – Explore a healthcare career this summer

-

The U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that from 2022 to 2032 the healthcare and social assistance sector is projected to grow faster than any other sector adding 2.1 million jobs. This will be about 45% of all new jobs.

This summer, KidsMatter will be expanding its highly successful Springboard Summer Series for high school students interested in healthcare careers to two locations, with program sessions held in both Naperville and Elmhurst. A total of 90 students will receive college credit for a Survey of Healthcare Careers course offered through College of DuPage. The course includes an exploration of various allied health professions, (including diagnostic, medical information, rehabilitation, and patient care services) with opportunities for mental health/behavioral health career exploration through classroom speakers, job shadowing and field experiences.

This program will provide students with the knowledge and work readiness skills necessary to work in various healthcare or other professional settings, as well an understanding of the prevalence of mental health issues and the various mental health/behavioral health careers available. Along with college credit, all students will be trained and certified in teen Mental Health First Aid.

Both sessions begin in June, though hours vary between locations. Classes will be held Mondays and Wednesdays, with Thursdays reserved for the interactive learning experiences. All costs, including books and fees, are covered, and transportation assistance is available if needed.

KidsMatter is grateful for financial support from Endeavor Health Community Investment Fund and other generous partners. The program is a collaboration between KidsMatter, College of DuPage, Naperville Unit School District 203, Indian Prairie School District 204, Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205, and Endeavor Health, which includes Edward Hospital, Elmhurst Hospital, and Linden Oaks Behavioral Health and other key partners.
