Original Post, March 28, 2024 / To recognize “National Donate Life Month,” Naperville Mayor Scott Wehrli will present a proclamation at 3PM Fri., April 5, in Council Chambers at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle Street.
The Mayor will be joined by representatives from Gift of Hope Organ and Tissue Donor Network, Edward Hospital/Endeavor Health and local community members who share their story of donation.
“In response to our request, we are asking community partners and local officials to participate in this national observance focused on the need and importance of organ, eye and tissue donation,” said Tonisha Brown, MPA, in a written statement for Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network.
“National Donate Life Month is about the importance of registering your decision to be a donor, honoring deceased and living donors, and celebrating the lives they saved,” Brown continued. “It is the generosity of donors and donor families that makes saving lives through transplantation possible.”
Throughout the month of April, Gift of Hope is encouraging everyone to learn the facts about donation and say “yes” to registering as an organ, eye and tissue donor today.
A single person can save up to eight lives as an organ donor, heal more than 25 lives as a tissue donor and restore sight for two people.
“Registering as a donor means that you have documented your legal decision to save and enhance lives after your death,” Brown added. “We can end the wait. Registering as a donor takes less than two minutes. It’s so important.”
During the ceremony, attendees will hear from local donor families as well as recipients whose lives have been touched by donation.
Note also, April 3 is observed as National Donor Day, celebrating the lifesaving generosity of living donors.
