Naperville Gardener – Did you know that…?

-

Did you know, most organizations welcome new members and encourage anyone interested to attend meetings and activities? The Naperville Garden Club embraces this welcoming attitude, as do many organizations featured in every issue of Positively Naperville.

If you’re bored or lonely, open the pages and maybe you’ll want to join the volunteers at Loaves and Fishes, our community food bank and services. Or perhaps one of the four Rotary Clubs of Naperville, Naperville Noon Lion’s Club, Naperville Woman’s Club, West Suburban Irish or any of the other groups featured in these pages appeals to you. If you’re interested, give any of them a call.

The Naperville Garden Club accepts new members at any time and our meetings offer a wide variety of programs that you may attend with paid reservations.

At our March 27 meeting, after refreshments provided by Belgio’s Catering and our brief business meeting, Janet Gallagher will present a “Floral Design Hands-On Workshop.”
Janet is the floral design instructor at Kishwaukee College in Malta, just a little west of DeKalb.

I say “just a little west” because when I was a student at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, my roommate’s boyfriend lived in a rental house in Malta. One slow Sunday afternoon, Linda was missing him, and since neither of us had a car, we decided to walk to Malta to surprise him. I was a little inspired, too, because I was dating his roommate (briefly). Those were the days…

For many years Janet has presented a workshop with the help of her students. She brings flowers, greens and everything needed for everyone to make a fresh flower arrangement. It’s helpful to bring a pair of small clippers, but we’re happy to share ours.

If it’s cold, bring a bag to protect the flowers on their way home. This meeting especially allows conversations to flow, questions answered about our club and friendships to grow. Please join us!

Because flowers and other materials need to be ordered, paid reservations ($35, a bit higher than our other meetings because of the flowers, etc.) are due Wed., March 6. Call Barbara at (630) 650-4405) to RSVP.

We will meet Wed., March 27 at the Naperville Municipal Center on Eagle Street. Registration is at 8:45AM and refreshments at 9:15AM – Business Meeting followed by the Program/Workshop. We hope that you will join us and have fun learning about floral design!
