Expanded Early Voting for DuPage County Residents Only / 8AM to 4:30PM Weekdays through March 2, 2024 / On Thurs., Feb. 8, Expanded Early Voting began at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle Street – Meeting Rooms A&B. (Note: When visited at 4:29PM yesterday, the first day of expanded early voting, 16 registered voters had cast their all-paper ballots downstairs in the Municipal Center.) DuPage County voters may be cast early from 9AM to noon on Saturdays, Feb. 10, 17 and 24. Beginning March 4, additional Early Voting sites will be open daily throughout Naperville with expanded hours until Primary Election Day, Tues., March 19.

Chicago Auto Show’s ‘First Look for Charity’ / 7 to 11PM / at McCormick Place. Chicago Auto Show’s ‘First Look for Charity’ welcomes Turning Pointe Autism Foundation among beneficiaries. Chess In Concert / 8PM / Madden Theater will be transformed into an intimate cabaret room with a live orchestra and a cast of talented actors performing a concert version of Chess. It’s Super Bowl Weekend, Spread the Word: Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk / Naperville Police remind football fans and partygoers that designated drivers are the best defense against the dangers of impaired driving. If your Super Bowl celebration involves alcohol or cannabis, plan for a ride home with a sober driver. If you’re hosting the party, take care of the designated drivers. Note that sober driving isn’t the only law that should be followed. Distracted driving and speeding will get you a citation, and you must wear a seatbelt no matter where you are seated in a vehicle. This campaign is administered and funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation with federal highway safety funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Chinese New Year begins… Also known as the Lunar New Year, the Chinese New Year is mostly centered on the theme of family bonding, good food (Dine Naperville), prosperity and good luck for 15 days. The Lantern Festival marks the end of the celebrations. 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, symbolizing strength, courage and good fortune from Feb. 10 through Feb. 24. 

117th Annual Chicago Auto Show hosts Versiti 2024 Chicago Auto Show Dennis Buckley Memorial Blood Drive / 10AM to 7PM Feb. 10-Feb. 19. Appointments preferred, but walk-ins welcomed. / McCormick Place South, 2301 South Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, IL 60616, Exhibit Area SH257. / The annual Dennis Buckley Memorial Blood Drive, which will be facilitated by the Versiti Blood Center of Illinois, provides blood to more than 85 hospitals in Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. Third Annual Disney Karaoke / 6-9PM / Fundraiser supports the VFW National Home for Children. at the Naperville VFW at 908 Jackson Avenue. Enter downtown Naperville along Main Street for a day of bargain hunting as stores offer clearance sales while making room for spring merchandise. While you’re there, take a break and head over to the Riverwalk Civic Plaza, Jackson Avenue at Webster. Note the historical plaque that indicates the Riverwalk celebrated its first 42 years on Sept. 7, 2023. 

When strolling the Riverwalk, look for bronze plaques that help tell the story of this community’s can-do spirit to create the Riverwalk Park along the DuPage River. In 2021, dozens of commemorative plaques from Main Street to Jefferson Avenue were restored to readability with funds made available by the Riverwalk Foundation to enhance the community’s natural treasure.
