January and February 2024 events at Naper Settlement

Though Naper Settlement and its offices are closed Mon., Dec. 26, and Mon., Jan. 1, the museum will resume normal operations on December 27. Hours are 10AM to 4PM Tuesday through Friday. This time of year through April, Naper Settlement is closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Naper Settlement presents the following events and programs during January and February 2024. The museum is open Tuesday-Friday from 10AM-4PM with general museum admission $6 for adults (13+), $5 for seniors (62+), and $4 for youth (4-12). Naperville residents with proof of residency, children under 4, and members receive complimentary admission. Your Friendly Neighborhood Historian: How Do We Know What We “Know” About the Past?

Thursday, January 11 • 7-8PM • $10/person

How is it possible for history to change? Using the period after the Civil War, known as Reconstruction, as a model, Naper Settlement will explore how historians make arguments about the past and how you can learn skills to separate the convincing from the make believe. Attendees can receive 1.0 CPDU credit.

Field Watchers After School Program

Every Tuesday beginning on January 16 • 4-6PM • Free for parents and elementary age students

Unleash your curiosity every Tuesday while exploring the wonders of agriculture, STEM, and nature! This program is for parents and elementary age students. Pre-registration is required.

Wedding Showcase

Saturday, January 20 • 10AM-3PM • Tickets are free

Wedding Showcase is a great place for busy couples to find out how to make their special day one to remember. Throughout the museum campus, couples will have one-on-one personal consultations with the best in the wedding business including photographers, florists, musicians, caterers, and more. After visiting each vendor at the Wedding Showcase, guests can enter a raffle for the chance to win a variety of items, including hotel room stay certificates, gift cards, and more from vendors. Teacher Tuesdays: How Do We Know What We “Know” About the Past? (Virtual Program)

Tuesday, January 23 • 4-5PM • $10/teacher

Transform your Tuesdays into an engaging historical discussion and leave with 1.0 CPDU credit. The Reconstruction era is a critical part of US history that can often be a challenge to teach. Join Naper Settlement’s education team to learn more about this period and participate in activities that you can bring to the classroom. Teacher Tuesdays is a virtual professional development program for teachers. Pre-registration is required.

Craft by Beer Series: Paint by Beer

Thursday, January 25 • 7-9PM • $20/adult (21+)

Relive your childhood with Paint by Numbers, only this time enjoy a drink as you fill in the canvas. Learn about the history of Paint by Numbers, get inspired by vintage examples, and take home your own painting. You must be at least 21 years of age to participate in this program. A valid ID is required at event entry. Pre-registration is required.

Thursday, February 8 • 7-8PM • $10/person

Did you know that Naperville has a Cold War history? Learn about missile sites, emergency plans and training, and changes to the landscape that shaped Naperville during the decades of the Cold War. Attendees can receive 1.0 CPDU credit.

Teacher Tuesdays: Cold Nights, Cold War (Virtual Program)

Tuesday, February 20 • 4-5PM • $10/teacher
