Seniors, your input matters!
Age Guide Northeastern Illinois wants your input in a Community Needs Assessment Survey.
They want to hear from older adults to give feedback about issues in the hopes of addressing the most pressing challenges seniors face today.
Simply go to ageguide.org and select “Age Guide Community Needs Assessment,” or go straight to research.net/r/OlderAdultCommunitySurvey to begin the survey.
In my own quest to find out what issues are important to seniors, I stopped in at retirement homes, malls, and the streets of Naperville.
Here’s what they said:
The biggest concern is accessing information about what is available. Many are unaware of what’s out there.
Technology is another concern. They want assistance using their devices and for online activities, such as booking appointments.
“When problems occur, they have no one to help them,” says senior citizen Sandra Seidler.
Transportation is another issue.
“The ride system just isn’t there,” says Jim Sterzinger.
Many seniors find the transportation systems currently in place for seniors don’t go far enough in meeting their needs. Gary Young would like to see expanded transportation services to grocery stores and pharmacies.
For Joann Cook, ready-made meal delivery services tend to be overpriced with not enough variety and a lack of freshness.
The seniors I interviewed were very invested in their health and well-being. They wanted to know how to reduce medicine costs. Phyllis and Bud Grey stated that most seniors are confused about health care programs and need help in determining which ones to sign up for.
