Updated Post, Jan. 19, 2024 / The next Watch Party is set for 11:30AM Tues., Jan. 23, 2024, again in Council Chambers. Everyone is welcome. See contact info at the bottom of this previous post. Thank you.

Original Post, Nov. 14, 2023 / The Naperville in November Watch Party: “Update on Social Media & Teen Mental Health” is set from 7PM to 9PM Tues., Nov. 14, at the Naperville Municipal Center.

Earlier today at noon, KidMatter, The Branch Moms Community, The Collaborative Youth Team of Illinois, the Glenbard Parent Series (GPS) and the Naperville Park District hosted the first eye-opening session featuring Dr. Mitch Prinstein and Dr. Eva Telzer.

The two doctors examined the long-term effects of technology and social media use on teen social and emotional development; creating tools for parents, caregivers and teens to make better informed choices about how they interact with social media.

After the program, a number of attendees stayed for Q&A, offering “take-away” comments from the presentation, of which there were many.

Put all family cell phones to bed at 9PM

For instance, one suggestion was in order to get a much-need good night’s sleep, have every family member put their cell phone on the top of the refrigerator at 9PM for the night.

“Our November 14 special events will be of great value for elementary, middle and high school caregivers!” said Hilda Ross, Student and Community Project Coordinator -Glenbard, for a group that’s been focused on Navigating Healthy Families for 28 years. “All are welcome thanks to the generous sponsors—KidsMatter, DULY, DuPage County Health Department, College of DuPage, to name a few. All are committed to healthy families everywhere.”

The second free program of the day begins at 7PM Tues., Nov. 14, also hosted in the Council Chambers and is open to the public.

To attend in person, sign up in advance, if possible, as space is limited.
