Volunteers gather leftover produce for Loaves and Fishes in record amount

On Mon., Oct. 23, 2023, a group of more than 30 volunteers gleaned leftover vegetables at the Naperville Park District’s Ron Ory Community Garden Plots following the close of the 2023 gardening season.

The volunteers collected 1,365 lbs. of produce which was donated to Loaves and Fishes Community Services.

Additionally, over the summer, donations including the yield from the master gardeners’ “Giving Garden” and from other gardeners’ donations totaled 3,765 lbs. of vegetables, for a grand total of 5,130 lbs. of produce donated in 2023—the most donated in the program’s history.
