WDSRA volunteers want a fun experience working with a great group of individuals. Our participants are definitely an outstanding group of individuals who know how to bring the fun. They love meeting new people, laughing, joking, and generally having a good time. Oh by the way… that describes both our volunteers and our participants.
And not to brag… but volunteering at the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) is one exciting place to spend your time. It’s not your run-of-the-mill volunteer experience. With WDSRA you can check out a first run movie, go to the latest hot spot for dinner, hit every rollercoaster Great America offers, or even get your dance on at Saddle Up. Ok… maybe that’s a little bragging.
But seriously, volunteers are a big part of our programs. We depend on volunteers to help staff our programs, especially the larger group programs. Volunteers are an extra set of hands helping serve snacks and drinks at our very popular dances. They are the cheer & steer partner helping motivate and encourage participants in Tae kwon do. They are the new friend that helps a young child learn how to play soccer for the first time or help them create an original art masterpiece all their own.
There are so many ways that volunteers can have an impact. Perhaps most importantly, just by being an active volunteer they help create a dynamic and enriching atmosphere in every program.
Can volunteering an hour or two a week really make a difference? You bet it can! Last year alone we were fortunate enough to host 570 volunteer hours in programs. That equates to approximately a $18,141 donation. That is huge!
