Greetings From Our Readers – October 2023

-

Mark Twain was correct when he noted, “He was as shy as a newspaper is when referring to its own merits.” That’s why we appreciate what readers say about Positively Naperville and this active place many spirited folks call home.

To PN and James Hoch Photography:

A quick thank you for your unwavering support of public safety – and your mention of CAPS, it certainly helps with the awareness of who we are within our community!
Jim, thank you as always, see you in a couple of weeks.

Take care,
Wes Wernette
Chairman, Naperville CAPS (Citizens Appreciate Public Safety)

Editor’s Note: The Annual CAPS Awards Dinner to recognize the Naperville Fire Department is Oct. 5 at Mesón Sabika.

To PN:

On behalf of Naperville Responds for Veterans, we would like to thank our local golf clubs for another great year of support for our organization. The money we raised at local Member/Member Tournaments will once again go a long way toward supporting our Mission Statement which states: “The Organization assists Veterans and their families in need, especially those with low and moderate income, by raising donations of money, building materials, and professional labor; and coordinating the process of repairing., building and donating homes.”

The final tally of funds raised by the three clubs—White Eagle Golf Club, Naperville Country Club and Cress Creek Country Club— totaled $53,561.

At a recent NRFV Board Meeting, we made a decision to not only award the Tournament for Our Champions trophy on an annual basis based on Gross Dollars raised, but also a new competitive award for the Average Donation per Golfer by Club for the three Tournaments.

I want to thank our great Volunteers for their support once again as well as express gratitude to Pat Bowler for the “Tournament for Our Champions” idea in the first place all those years ago.

All the best to all for your great support of Naperville Responds for Veterans!

Featuring interviews with visitors in downtown Naperville, DAR member Madeline Miller asks, “What is the U.S. Constitution?”

To PN:

Wow! I am very impressed with the DAR video! I am also impressed with the knowledge of our Constitution by everyone interviewed and by the uplifting messages of freedom.
This is so different from the responses we see on TV of the “man on the street” who knows nothing about anything to do with our history and our founding.
Please compliment the DAR for me!

To PN:

That was such a great article (regarding Constitution Day). I passed it all around here. Actually, a few used to live in your area before discovering there are warm winters in SC. Thanks again for the article!

Thanks for putting in all the Constitution info in PN this month.

Editor’s Note: 22 years ago when Ben Gross was a WVHS student, he also became PN’s first teen music contributor. We appreciate his dad’s directing us to the Tocqueville Lecture Series that featured an enlightening discussion about the Constitution on Sept. 17, 2023. Yes! We watched it!)

To PN:

To PN (via FB):

I love that this event (Ashley Whippet K-9 Frisbee World Championships at Nike Park) still comes to Naperville! I remember “competing at 7 months pregnant.” Tucker, our dog, dropped the disc at my feet and I almost fell over trying to pick it up. We were in the “amateur” division. LOL! Great memories—and some really talented teams!!

PN Ombudsman
PN Ombudsman
An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
