Police take pair into custody for retail thefts

At approximately 7PM on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023, multiple Naperville Police Officers responded to a business in the 1300 block of S. Rt. 59 to a report of a theft in progress.

Responding officers met with store employees outside and were directed to the suspected offenders. After addressing the suspects and conducting a preliminary investigation, two people were taken into custody for taking a large amount of allergy medication without paying on both this date and in a similar incident at the same location on Aug. 25, 2023. It is estimated that just under $4,000 in product was taken in the two incidents.

Ionel Tomescu

Ionel Tomescu, 30, of the 7700 block of Grant Avenue, Elmwood Park, is charged with two counts of Burglary, a Class 2 felony; two counts of Retail Theft, a Class 3 felony; and one count of Endangering the Health/Life of a Child, a class A misdemeanor.

Miclescu Lovenza

Miclescu Lovenza, 26, of the 7700 block of Grant Avenue, Elmwood Park, is charged with two counts of Burglary, a Class 2 felony; two counts of Retail Theft, a Class 3 felony; and one count of Endangering the Health/Life of a Child, a class A misdemeanor.

The Naperville Police wish to remind the public and the news media that a charge is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
