At 9:19PM on Sun., July 23, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received an automatic fire alarm notification at a multi-family structure and dispatched a dual response. This dispatch was followed by immediate calls from residents reporting a structure fire at the same residential apartment complex in the 1500 block of Country Lakes Drive. PSAP upgraded the dispatch to a general alarm response.

A general alarm assignment consists of three engines, two ladder trucks, one heavy rescue squad, two medic units, and two battalion commanders. The first unit arrived on scene at 9:24PM, where they found a large two-story, wood-framed, multi-family residential apartment building with nothing showing from the exterior.

First-arriving companies completed a 360-degree survey of the occupancy, provided an on scene report, established command, and began fire operations. On-scene companies began an investigation and found a kitchen fire in a first-floor unit of the building.

Crews began an offensive interior attack, stretching hose lines to the first floor to extinguish the fire. Crews also identified and assisted multiple residents out of the apartment complex.

Primary and secondary searches confirmed that there were no other occupants in the fire unit or in need of rescue.

The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes of the initial alarm. Fire crews remained on the scene for another hour to look for any fire extension and conduct salvage and overhaul operations.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department and the Naperville Transportation, Engineering, and Development team. The Wheaton Fire Department provided Station coverage for Naperville During the incident. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the 1500 Block of Country Lakes Dr.

Naperville Fire Department investigation team. Damages to the home are estimated at $50,000.

There were no injuries to any firefighters. The fire unit was deemed uninhabitable; however, the rest of the building was able to be reoccupied.
