There is a new resource guide you can check out for dementia-related services in Naperville! The “Dementia Friendly Naperville Resource Guide” was developed by members of the Naperville Senior Task Force to provide access to programs and other information for care partners and those affected by dementia. It lists local, state and federal resources that help further the quality of life for individuals living with dementia and their care partners. Some of the resources listed in the guide include where to find local service providers, financial/legal assistance, adult day services, home care, memory care facilities and other mental health resources.
Naperville is no stranger to inclusivity commitments. Naperville was named a Dementia Friendly City in late 2020, as the result of a joint effort between the Senior Task Force and a committee of individuals from several community organizations. The designation from Dementia Friendly America showcases Naperville as a community that “fosters the ability of people living with dementia to remain in the community and engage and thrive in day-to-day living.” A dementia friendly community, as defined by Dementia Friendly America, is “a village, town, city or county that is informed, safe and respectful of individuals with the disease, their families and caregivers and provides supportive options that foster quality of life.”
The new resource guide is available on the Naperville city website. It is easy to navigate and very user-friendly. A shortcut to the page can be found at Naperville.il.us/dementiafriendly. Pages from the guide can be downloaded and/or printed.
Kathy McGowan, Co-Chair of the Naperville Senior Task Force, stated, “Hopefully this resource guide will be an asset to family members and caregivers in the ongoing search for services and assistance for those with dementia. We are pleased to be able to offer the guide to this unique community.”
Carpe Diem!
