Our Voices – Engaging our community

Welcome to Our Voices! I’m excited to be your author. I have been a resident of Naperville for the past eight years. My husband and I chose to live here with our children after several corporate transfers across Canada which eventually brought us to the United States.

My husband and I are now approaching the empty nest stage (This should be fun!), so I returned to teaching and am currently working in School 204 District as a long-term substitute at Metea Valley High School.

I also sit on the Naperville Senior Task Force. How fortunate for me to be able to have this senior forum as well as exposure to the youth of today and be able to make connections. While teaching keeps me busy, the Senior Task Force is also a hub of activity in your community!

The Naperville Senior Task Force was established in 2014 by Naperville City Council to address the unique needs of Naperville’s growing senior population. We are a group of nine committed, energetic and engaged members; and our goal is to identify gaps in service to seniors, and coordinate and promote senior initiatives.

There is no doubt that Naperville is a great place for working and going to school for families with children, and it should be just as wonderful for seniors. Seniors are a valuable and contributing group in Naperville and we want to leverage your voice within our community. We are a better community when everyone is heard.

We address supportive independent living, promotion of seniors’ health and well-being. We also provide and publicize educational opportunities for Naperville seniors. Check us out on the City’s website at www.naperville.il.us/government/board-and-commissions/senior-task-force/.

We look forward to serving you! Watch for more upcoming stories! Carpe Diem!
