Naperville Gardener – Joyful houseplant and then some

-

A few years ago a garden club friend gave me a few pieces of her burro’s tail (Sedum morganianum) to take home and plant. It was so easy! I poked the leaf bases into the soil at an angle and in a little while it grew into the cascading plant you see in the picture. I like it so much that I have started a second pot!

I use a potting soil that is specific for indoor plants and deep water it about once a month. According to my research, burro’s tail loves to spend the summer outside hanging from a branch where it would welcome filtered sunlight. Since I will have a “spare,” I’m going to try it. Mine has yet to bloom, but maybe a summer vacation would bring forth flowers.
The symbolism of this plant is “many sons and many blessings.” It certainly belongs in my house where my two sons and three grandsons have given me much joy!
