Naperville Police investigate serious traffic crash on Chicago Avenue, seek witnesses

On Monday, Jan. 30, 2023, at approximately 8:51AM, the Naperville Police and Fire Departments responded to Chicago Avenue and Olesen Drive for a vehicle crash involving a black Audi driven by a 77-year-old man and a black Cadillac driven by a 74-year-old man, both from Naperville.

The initial investigation indicates that the Audi was traveling northbound on Olesen Drive approaching Chicago Avenue when it ran the red light and struck the Cadillac, which was traveling westbound on Chicago Avenue. The driver of the Audi suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. 

Due to the nature of the incident, members of the Naperville Traffic Unit trained in accident investigation and reconstruction responded to the scene to investigate the crash. During the initial investigation, a portion of the intersection of Chicago Avenue and Olesen Drive was closed and rerouted until approximately 11AM.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Naperville Police Department’s Traffic Unit at (630) 420-8833.
