The New Year is full of excitement and promise. At the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA), we have a lot of “new” that promises a whole lot of excitement.
To begin with, we have a wide range of new programs being offered. Keeping things fresh, we have Dancing for Fun (learn all the latest moves), Game Truck Mobile Gaming (bringing the latest in gaming), King Cobras Drumline (direct from the drum and bugle corps), and more! Our winter and spring program brochure has all the information on these and other exciting programs.
Opening this month is our newest Rec & Roll location in Winfield at the Charles R. Beggs Activity Center. Rec & Roll is our adult day program and this will be our 7th location. Rec & Roll is for adults 22-55 years old with an intellectual disability. Days are filled with a variety of activities including field trips, fitness, outdoor recreation, arts & crafts, volunteer projects, games, social interaction, and more. Families can choose the number of days they attend for maximum flexibility. For more information or to schedule a tour, call us at (630) 681-0962.

Though not technically new, we are very excited to welcome volunteers into our programs. As a volunteer you get to be a part of programs that are a whole lot of FUN. You could be helping make cookies on a Thursday, playing board games on a Friday, or serving beverages at a dance on a Saturday. You might also find yourself coaching a sports team, helping a little one learn to ice skate or heading to a Blackhawks game with a group of adults. With a wide range of programs, you are sure to find one you like. As a volunteer, you are contributing to the success of every individual we serve.
And of course, as a program staff member you are a vital part of our team. As a part-time staff, you could be involved in the same programs as our volunteers… but get paid for it. You choose the program, days and hours you want to work. You always receive training and support. And here is the new part… we are rolling out a new training platform. We will have new trainings for everything from program specifics & behavior management to leadership & communications. We want you to be comfortable whether working one-on-one with a child or leading a group of adults. To apply, visit www.wdsra.com/employment-volunteers.
We hope you’ll join us! Here’s to a promising New Year… together!
