Focus on Safety – Our commitment to safety never changes

-

Change is part of life and a constant for better or for worse. But while some things do change, others don’t; specifically, our commitment to safety and addressing the problems and concerns of this community and its residents.

Like we do each and every year, the Naperville Police Department resolves in the new year to help keep you and your family safe by proactively patrolling your neighborhoods, rapidly responding to calls for service, thoroughly investigating crimes and educating you on crime prevention tactics you can use to help protect your family and property.

Read on for a few examples of how our various divisions and units will contribute to the community’s safety this year.

Our Traffic Unit responds to thousands of public property traffic crashes ever year and also conducts proactive enforcement to deter violations and enforce traffic laws. Many of our traffic officers and some of our civilian staff are also certified Child Safety Seat Technicians that are trained to inspect and install all types of child safety seats and educate parents or caregivers on the proper installation and use.

We have a Strategic Response Unit (SRU) to specifically focus on high crime areas, nuisance problems, and other community concerns. The unit consistently collaborates with department intelligence personnel to provide additional specialized investigations, directed enforcement, community collaboration for problem solving, and other specialty assignments such as FOID revocation investigations and weapon recoveries.

We also have a Special Response Team (SRT) comprised of well-trained, highly-skilled individuals providing enhanced response capabilities to critical incidents.

Realizing many police calls are not criminal in nature and require mental health assistance, NPD also has four master’s level clinicians who provide a variety of services to the community including crisis intervention, short term counseling and referrals.

From the numerous community programs and educational outreach to having a cup of coffee with the Chief as part of “Chat with the Chief,” the Naperville Police Department is steadfast and committed to providing extraordinary service to the community while protecting life and property. Remember, we’re here when you need us!
