WDSRA: Keeping spirits merry and bright

-

Without a doubt, this is one of the busiest seasons of the year and filled with the most excitement. Around the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) the holiday spirit is certainly bright and merry.

We kicked off the season’s festivities with dozens of families visiting Santa at the Naperville Park District Santa’s Workshop. Families got to visit with the big guy while creating memories for the entire family. Those were some pretty incredible visits for everyone. WDSRA is proud to be one of the sponsors of the special needs nights.

Members of Rec & Roll, our adult day program, were busy making decorations and decorating holiday trees in, not one, but two communities. Everyone can visit the municipal areas of Roselle and Warrenville to see how they turned out.

Next up was the always popular holiday dinner dance. Dinner, music, dancing, and a visit from both Santa & Mrs. Claus made the evening with friends a holiday highlight. Attendees had a great time and even left with a special gift. Families were thrilled to hear how much fun was had that evening.

Yet to come are holiday camps for the school-aged crew. There will be arts, crafts, games and more to keep active during the holiday break. And let’s not forget the New Year’s Eve extravaganza to ring in the new year. More time to celebrate with friends including snacks, mocktails, music, and dancing. There will also be a balloon drop… a little earlier than midnight of course.

Meanwhile, back at the WDSRA office, staff have been showing their holiday spirit, one decoration at a time, with some rather inspired door decorating. Carols are playing and gifts are being wrapped for holiday sharing.

It certainly is the most wonderful time of year.

If you would like to support WDSRA participants and families, consider donating to our annual appeal going on now through December 31. Donations can easily be made online at www.wdsra.com. Funds raised through the annual appeal are a vital part of our FY21-22 budget.
