The Y – Napervillians: happy holidays

-

We’re all looking forward to the 2022 Mayor’s Interfaith Breakfast on Dec. 10. (Click here to check last-minute availability to reserve a seat.)  Thanks to all who plan to join us — neighbors, friends, and community — at the Fry Family YMCA to celebrate the promise of hope and to informally kick off the 2022 holiday season.

We plan to mingle and make merry, taking time to see so many familiar faces and to make new friends and connections. That’s what the holiday season is all about, isn’t it?

A special thank you to beloved Naperville community member, former Heritage YMCA CEO, and former Positively Naperville columnist Tom Beerntsen for serving as keynote speaker. Tom’s participation and remarks are expected to be both timely and inspirational. Thank you also to our event sponsor Friedrich-Jones Funeral Homes and Cremation Services for their support of the event and our community at large!

Looking ahead to 2023

Many big things are coming up at the Fry Family YMCA and across the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago.

New Year’s resolutions? We’ve got you covered. No matter your fitness level, no matter how long you have or haven’t been a part of the Naperville community, there’s something for everyone at the Y. Namaste newbies, pickleballers, day campers, spin enthusiasts, cannonball experts, stroller joggers, athleisure aficionados — you already belong at the Y. This is your community.

So if you’re a former member, current member, future member, or you just haven’t been in a while, stop by to learn about our programs, services, and experiences. We love meeting people and sharing more information about everything we offer.

Speaking of offerings, overnight camp registration for summer 2023 is open for camps across the association. With five locations nestled among picturesque landscapes in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan, YMCA of Metro Chicago overnight camps provide a variety of seasonal activities and trips for youth of all ages. Register soon, because spots will fill up!

And, mark your calendars, because day camp registration (including right here at Fry Family Y) is set to open in early March. It’ll be here before you know it.

As always, for more information about YMCA programming in Naperville, including camp, sports and rec, child care, and seasonal events, please visit us online at ymcachicago.org/fry and ymcachicago.org/safensound or stop by our front desk.

Best wishes for a Happy New Year! See you all in 2023!

Editor’s Note / Back in 2004, PN first met Tom Beerntsen when he arrived at the YMCA in downtown Naperville to serve as Heritage YMCA CEO. This past year, the community observed the demolition of the building that stood for 112 years along Washington Street. Many of its bricks were saved to commemorate the values learned during experiences at the Y as a fundraiser. Anyone who wishes to support Y programs is welcome to purchase a commemorative brick for $112. Bricks with a plaque designating its local history are available at Naperville Bank & Trust, Washington Street at Benton Avenue in downtown Naperville.
