The Naperville Municipal Band performed on Sunday, Nov. 6, at Wentz Concert Hall in the North Central College Performing Arts Center.
The fall concert, timed with Veterans Day, took on a special focus this year since it fell on the 168th anniversary of the birthdate of John Philip Sousa.
Staff Sergeant Chris Larios (USMC) performed a trumpet solo, “Willow Echoes.”
What’s more, a Naperville Municipal Band saxophone septet was set to perform “One Step” on what turned out to be National Saxophone Day, also celebrated on Nov. 6. National Saxophone Day is a tribute to the birthdate of Adolphe Sax (1814-1894), inventor of the essential instrument used to play Sousa marches.
And the appreciative audience lost count of standing ovations throughout the rousing concert. The finale featuring different brass sections performing “The Stars and Stripes Forever” long will be remembered. Cheers!
Note also to save the date for 3PM Sun., Dec. 11, when the Naperville Municipal Band returns to The Wentz to present traditional sounds of the holidays with seasonal songs and Christmas carols.
