Chamber work isn’t just about the business community

-

It is an honor to introduce myself to Naperville as a source of knowledge, tools and resources that serve the business community. My name is Beth Goncher and recently I began working for the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce as the Director of Government Affairs. My work history has provided me with experience in many roles in and around government at the local, state, and federal levels. There is one thing my career has shown me to be inevitably true about politics – it’s always local.

For this reason, I am excited to embark on a different part of my career working in government affairs, but within a chamber setting. I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of and witness many of the decisions made at all levels of government. These decisions affect our businesses, our communities, and our families. Sometimes these decisions work, other times they don’t. It’s my job, with your help, to make sure we have a seat at the table to discuss, challenge, and advocate for those policies or decisions to be made that result in positively impacting our community and the businesses we work with or inside. The old quote of there being strength in numbers is best illustrated when our community engages within our Chamber. I am your liaison to do just this.

Chamber work isn’t just about the business community. It is about all of us and our quality of life. The goal of government affairs is not just to educate and inform but to take a stand for public policy that works for us and push back against policies that don’t. If you aren’t yet involved with the Chamber, consider joining our work. Not only can we create change collectively, we see a byproduct of broadened and deeper connections that bring us professional and personal value.

Consider me and the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce your resource – talk to me, engage with our advocacy efforts, and use your voice. I look forward to continuing a dialogue here, showcasing our work, and highlighting those matters that could impact you each month.
