October events at Naper Settlement

Naper Settlement is pleased to present the following events and programs during October 2022. The museum is open Tuesday-Friday from 10 AM-4 PM with general museum admission $12 for adults (13+), $10 for seniors (62+), and $8 for youth (4-12). Naperville residents with proof of residency, children under 4, and members receive complimentary admission. Unvarnished: Deed Scrubbing Workshop

Thursday, October 6, 13, 20, & 27 • 2-2:30PM

Included in general admission

On January 1, 2022, a new state law allowing Illinois homeowners to remove racially or religiously restrictive covenants from their property deed for a small fee went into effect. These covenants, made illegal with the 1968 Fair Housing Act, are a legacy of housing discrimination. Join Naper Settlement’s curator of research to learn more about the history of racial covenants and the process put in place by the new law to remove them from housing deeds. A person does not need to be a homeowner or a Naperville resident to attend. The workshop will last about 30 minutes.

Playscape Readers: Halloween

Wednesday, October 12 • 1PM 

Included in general admission

Playscape Readers is a story time for children that follows seasonal themes with a focus on historical themes and pre-reading skills. October’s theme is Halloween.

All Hallows Eve

Friday, October 14 & Saturday, October 15 • 6:30-10PM

$20/person | Tickets

Monsters, witches, and werewolves have escaped their homes on the pages of your favorite Halloween stories and are running loose on the grounds of Naper Settlement! Experience All Hallows Eve like never before with a newly reimagined line-up of outdoor activities and performances designed for families with kids 16 and under. 3rd Thursday Thinkers: Spiders

Thursday, October 20 • 1PM

Included in general admission

Join Naper Settlement for a special activity while learning about our eight-legged friends, spiders. Participants will make a painting using apples as stamps.

Howlin’ at the Moon

Friday, October 21 & Saturday, October 22 • 5-10PM

$20/adult (21+ years old) | Tickets

Enjoy thrilling performances and attractions at this Halloween event for adults (21+). Howl along to live music, feast your fangs into cuisine at the Food Truck Graveyard, and quench your undying thirst in the Booze Bar. Take a stroll through the Moonlight Market to purchase eerie and bizarre items, wander through the Dark Art Gallery, and participate in our costume contest for the chance to win a prize. Other attractions include fire dancers, a liquid lights show, a contortionist, a magician, a graveyard photo-op, and more! Guests are encouraged to wear costumes to the event. Howlin’ at the Moon is for adults 21 years of age and older only. No one under the age of 21 is permitted. IDs will be checked at the entrance. History Vision: Cemetery Symbolism Walking Tour

Sunday, October 23 • 2-3:30PM 

$15/person | Register

Join Naper Settlement’s curator of research to learn more about the history and meaning of cemetery symbolism during a walking tour at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Naperville. Pre-registration is required.

Joe Naper’s Discovery Play: Fall Leaves

Tuesday, October 25 • 10:30 AM-12PM

$15/child (3-5), $12/adult, adult members: free | Register

Children ages 3-5 and their adults are invited to join Naper Settlement for Joe Naper’s Discovery Play! This session engages curious pre-school aged children through social engagement and learning. The museum’s learning experiences team will guide children and their caregivers through fun activities and explorations. This day’s theme is fall leaves. Pre-registration is required.

Tavern Trivia: Haunted Hollywood

Thursday, October 27 • 7-8:30PM 

$20/adult (21+ years old) | Register

Enjoy a fun night of trivia about scary stories and movies. From the headless horseman to the bride of Frankenstein, Naper Settlement will test your knowledge of pop culture’s spooky stories and movies. Trivia teams are limited to four people; join as a team or as individuals. Pre-registration is required. Must be 21+ to participate.

Trick or Treat at Naper Settlement

Sunday, October 30 • 1-4PM 

$5/person | Tickets

Put on your best costumes and come trick or treat at historical homes for Halloween treats (while candy supplies last), watch the blacksmith at his forge, and more. There will also be a family costume contest. Families can win one of three titles: Best Costumes, Best Family Theme, or Most Creative Costumes. Children under 18 must attend the event with an adult, and adults must be accompanying a child.
