Naperville Gardener – Super Power of the Month: I’m Still ‘Young at Heart!’

-

Every September I breathe in the crisp fall air with a sense of anticipation that new experiences and new friends are in my future. Rooted firmly in my years as a student, I still have that “back to school” feeling every fall.

I had a wonderful summer with my family that includes four grandchildren—vacationing and living the wonderful life that Naperville has to offer. The gardens in our neighborhoods and public areas are so beautiful and well-kept that they provide teachable moments for my local grandsons, Wyatt (5) and Weston (3), such as, “Aren’t the hydrangeas gorgeous? Grandma has white ones at her house. Let’s look for others on our way home!”

And flying with them to visit their cousins Addy (11) and Alex (9) in Arizona revived my love of coloring, as well as the fun and games that my older grandchildren shared with this grandma. Nothing like being with children to be young at heart!

But now the fall routine has taken over and as they all are meeting new friends, I am also looking forward to meeting new friends at my garden club meetings since we don’t meet over the summer.

You are invited to join us. Please do at 8:45AM Wed., Sept. 28, 2022, at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle Street, Meeting Rooms A and B, on the Lower Level. We begin with registration and refreshments, and a business meeting at 9:15AM, followed by the program.

September’s program will be “Adding Fall Color to Your Garden and Containers,” presented by Kim Hartman, landscape designer.

Paid reservations ($17 payable to Naperville Garden Club) are due by September 21.

Simply mail to:

And… in case you’re wondering. At last month’s Garden Clubs of Illinois, Inc. Flower Show at the Chicago Botanic Garden, my floral design placed third in its category, a silhouette design of dried plant material. The show’s theme was. “Let’s Go to the Movies” and the movie for my section was “Sahara.”
