This is my favorite time of year! Back-to-School time is a great opportunity for a fresh start, new school supplies, new friends, and opportunities to learn and grow.
This year KidsMatter will be sharing ways we all can proactively support and strengthen our mental health. Studies have shown that there is a strong correlation between volunteering and better health and happiness. It can be intrinsically rewarding, create social connections, build new skills, and can support your leadership and professional development.
These opportunities are particularly important for young people. It helps them feel empowered, valued, and valuable. It helps them develop skills on how to interact effectively with others and explore interests.
You will have the opportunity to personally visit with a variety of organizations to discover volunteer opportunities during the KidsMatter Volunteer Fair on Mon., Oct. 17, at the Fort Hill Activity Center from 5:30 – 7:30PM.
We continue to hear how many organizations need more volunteer help. Each person can make a difference! We hope you will join us.
Also, the Youth Service Awards will be held in November where we will honor outstanding young people who are volunteering and supporting organizations in our community and our world. Community leaders nominate youth in the area who demonstrate a passion for providing service. Of the nominees, 25 youth are awarded a Youth Service Award by the Mayor, City Council, and KidsMatter in an awards ceremony at City Hall. We look forward to honoring young people who connect with opportunities that give them a sense of purpose, provide them with valuable hands-on experiences, and ignite the volunteer spirit that has helped make Naperville the thriving community it is today.
If you have any questions, would like to have a booth at the Volunteer Fair, or would like to nominate a young person for a Youth Service Award, please reach out to us at info@kidmatter2us.org.
