The recent and rapid rise in the number of people needing help from Loaves & Fishes has been significant. Many of our clients are experiencing a prolonged recovery from the economic impact of Covid. The substantial rise in inflation along with higher gas prices have made it overwhelmingly difficult for families already struggling to make ends meet.
I can’t think of a better time to be observing Hunger Action Month than now – we are serving more than 5,500 people each week, the highest ever. Your actions at this time can help families overcome such a challenging season in their lives. There are numerous ways you can step forward to be part of the solution.
If you have an interest in volunteering, you would be warmly welcomed. There are many different ways to volunteer from sorting food to helping with the CARES programs to serving in the market. You choose where and when, and we are always grateful. As you have seen your own food prices increase, so has Loaves & Fishes.
Consider hosting a Food Drive or participating in our Virtual Food Drive. A list of “most needed items” on our website will help guide you. Produce from your garden is the highest possible quality food we can offer so please bring it in. If you can contribute financially, we would be very appreciative; this allows us to purchase the items we need and supports our programs. Many people don’t know that Loaves & Fishes is one of the few nonprofits that has no fee for any service; we are raising all the dollars needed to serve so many struggling families. Additionally, be an everyday ambassador for us by sharing our stories and efforts posted on social media.
One of the things I love most about this community is that there are so many compassionate and loving hearts eager to help. Perhaps you’re regularly involved with us; please know how incredibly grateful we are. And if you’ve been waiting for the right moment to take action, that time is definitely now.
